I got four plates like this more than 20 years ago and I've never really liked them, so now I planned to get rid of them in connection of the coming kitchen renovation.
I have never really looked what is in the picture of the plate, but did it now, and what did I see: POST in the middle of everything! - Now I just CAN'T throw these away! :)
And that's probably the post carriage, so a totally cool postal themed scene.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds even better! But can it be, because there are I think at least three men visible. Or could the post carriage also give a ride for other people?
ReplyDeleteMy sister reads quite a few old English books (like Dickens) and I double checked with her. She says they often mention taking "the Post" or "the mails". Evidently at the time they doubled as a paid transport service for those who didn't own or want to rent their own horse and carriage at the livery. Kind of like the old Wells Fargo stage coaches in the old American west. I'm guessing the man leaning out the window may be transferring the mail.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Thank you for telling all this! - And guess what: I hadn't even noticed the man who is leaning out the window! A bit embarrassing, because I thought I had now finally seen what really is in the picture!
